At Nuvelo, we value the important contributions of our employees. Nuvelo provides a comprehensive compensation and benefits package.

Health Benefits

All regular, full-time employees are eligible (including domestic partner, spouse and dependent child(ren) to age 19; full time students to 25) for coverage on date of hire. The company offers Blue Cross of California or Kaiser Permanente with several coverage options (includes vision) to fit your needs (Blue Cross PPO or HMO, and Kaiser HMO). We also offer dental care through Delta Dental; vision coverage through VSP, company-paid basic life insurance of 2x your annual salary ($750,000 max.) and Long Term Disability coverage ($10,000/month max.) through Mutual of Omaha and several other voluntary plans through AFLAC. Nuvelo also offers Section 125 Flexible Spending Accounts (Health Care and/or Dependent Care) and allows you to set aside a portion of your salary on a pre-tax basis to pay for qualified out-of-pocket health and/or dependent care expenses.

401(k)

Nuvelo's 401(k) plan is administered by Fidelity Investments. All regular, full-time employees are eligible to enroll from date of hire. The Plan allows you to set aside up to 60% of your eligible pay on a pre-tax basis in order to save toward your retirement. You have a selection of funds to choose from and Fidelity offers a wealth of information and tools through their website. Your may contribute up to $15,500 (all sources of 401k contributions) for 2008. Nuvelo matches 10% of your contribution.

Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP)

Nuvelo's ESPP allows all regular, full-time employees to contribute up to 10% of their cash compensation through payroll deduction. Eligible employees may join the ESPP at the beginning of each offering period: March 1, June 1, September 1, December 1 which is coincident with or next following the employee's hire date. At the end of an offering period, Nuvelo stock will be purchased at a 15% discount from whichever is the lower; closing price on the beginning date or closing price on the ending date of the offering period.

Educational Assistance Program

All regular, full-time employees are eligible for tuition reimbursement for courses that are job related and pre-approved. Reimbursement covers tuition, books and other required fees. You must complete the course with a letter grade "B" or better. Reimbursement maximum is $5,000 per calendar year (based on when reimbursement is made to employee).

Employee Assistance Plan (EAP)

Nuvelo's Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provides employees, dependents, parents, and anyone living in the employee's household with advice and referrals for work/life issues. CONCERN:EAP features include counseling sessions (limited to five visits per family member per calendar year per topic), child/dependent care locator, legal referrals (housing/real estate, estate planning, family law, financial concerns and more), elder care information, career planning/counseling, work/life balance information and information on a number of other topics. There is no charge to the employee for these services, and use of CONCERN:EAP is completely confidential.

Paid Time-Off

All regular, full-time employees accrue four (4) weeks of paid time off per year. Following their 5-year anniversary, employees accrue 5 weeks per year. The annual maximum accrual limit is 6 weeks (240 hours).

Holidays

Nuvelo has 11 paid company holidays in 2008.
